Johnny Lightning Holiday Muscle and Classic - Part One

In 2000, Johnny Lightning created a special Series called Holiday Muscle. The 12 car set all had chrome finished in various colors and instead of plastic wheels they had rubber tires. This series continued to appear every year with new cars and colors until 2007.  In 2011, the Holiday Classic was revived but only a few cars were in the set.   This post shows my collection of Johnny Lightning cars from 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Johnny Lightning Redlines

When I first discovered Johnny Lightnings, I couldn't believe my eyes. They looked just like the Hot Wheels I used to play with as a kid.  They had the signature redline wheels but upon closer inspection, these cars had great details and paint!  Some of my first cars were from the muscle cars and mopar muscle series.  The ones shown are from the Playing Mantis era, all metal body and chassis.  They still have opening hoods just like the old Hot Wheels used to. Shown above is a 1967 blue Ford Thunderbird, a tan coloured 1964 Pontiac GTO, a pair of 68 Mercury Cougars and a red 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Hot Wheels Redlines - Splittin image

It's a pity I never kept any of my original Hot Wheel Redlines. The Paddy Wagon and Splittin Image were ebay acquisitions. These are obviously not mint. If the prices on the Redlines weren't so sky high, I'd love to add a few more to my collection. My childhood favourites included the Classic Cord, the Cockney Cab, the Heavyweights and many of the Spoilers.  Here are more pics of the Splitin Image.
